
Henry and I have just undertaken a business trip to Hong Kong and Shanghai over a 10 day period. Unfortunately when I arrived in Hong Kong, many of my ex-work colleagues at ANZ were being made retrenched as the new ANZ Asia structure has integrated the Corporate and Commercial Banking segments. This means that a client with turnover of up to $50M and undertaking business between Australia and Asia will find it more difficult to deal directly with ANZ. So much for ANZ’s much vaunted Super Regional strategy, and I believe tarnishes the banks reputation with clients they had built direct relationships with over the past 4 – 5 years. Whilst unfortunate for my work colleagues it is fortuitous for us as we have the knowledge capability of Asia given our over 28 years of experience in knowing and understanding the Asian market.
