Rental yields across Sydney fell due to the city’s increased prices for property. The median rent in Sydney was $500 a week for houses and $485 for units. In other cities Darwin saw the greatest growth at 7.7% or $460 per week for a house, whilst Melbourne followed, up 4.2% to $375 per week. Brisbane averaged $400 per week, Adelaide $350, Perth $480, Canberra $460 and Hobart $310 when renting a house. The greatest falls were in Canberra and Hobart. Recent trends in capital city rental markets are expected to consolidate during 2014 as increased supply starts to show in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
